In the early 1990’s

Owens Corning, a global leader in acoustics and building products and services for the home, saw a small but growing need for acoustical treatment products for ultra high end home theater systems. This led to the development of a systematic approach to create the ideal acoustic environment, called the Acoustic Room System. The relatively low demand combined with less than favorable reaction to the appearance of the product, lead to a complete evaluation of the product and market potential. In 1997 Owens Corning joined The Ultimate Home Theater Experience exhibit at Disney’s Epcot Center. Combined with the who’s who in electronics and theatrical design, Owens Corning became the single source of acoustic engineering and treatment for the exhibit. One goal of the project became to offer a complete theater, similar to the exhibit, to consumers with all of the design and engineering that was developed for the exhibit.

After evaluating the difficulties in attaining a true home theater, Owens Corning, decided to re-invent the entire process. Owens Corning realized that the minimal emphasis on aesthetic design combined with the complete lack of engineering and acoustical expertise caused frustration for most potential theater buyers. Add in the high cost of dedicated theaters and the lengthy installation and lead times and true home theater was simply impractical for most homeowners.

Owens Corning then launched VFX to completely change the paradigm of home theater. Built on a solid foundation of timeless acoustical principles, along with being easy to purchase, aesthetically breathtaking and turn key. The VFX concept was geared toward the tastes and lifestyles of today’s homeowner. A VFX theater is designed to help you enjoy the way you live: sophisticated lines of design, handcrafted theaters that are installed in less than a week and serviced by certified VFX professionals. VFX represents the definitive home theater brand, a home theater system that homeowners can be proud to call the center of their home entertainment needs.

VFX received an overwhelming response to the first home theater designs: The Connoisseur and The Sophisticate. In fact, The Connoisseur remains the most popular home theater design ever. Combining world-class design with the best acoustic engineering has proven to create a foundation that stands the test of time.

Due to internal direction and focus decisions, Owens Corning sold VFX to the KYH Corporation in 2002. KYH has decades of experience in high-end audio video systems through their LA Audio stores. They know how to get the ultimate level of performance out of electronics. This combined with the acoustic engineering and world-class design that was assembled by Owens Corning created the ideal home theater expertise.

VFX has developed a national dealer network to custom build and install ultra high-end theater systems for luxury homeowners that demand the best. In 2004, VFX identified the need for a more moderately priced system designed for the remodeling and retrofit markets. The Series M was born.
